Information for Cruise Passengers
Following are the most common questions we get from cruise ship passengers. If your question is not answered here please shoot us an email and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Where are you located and how do I get there?
Zipline Akureyri's base and meeting place is at Thingvallastraeti 50, in the middle of Akureyri. Here is a map. We are located at the end of the parking area.
Depending on your schedule, you can take the local free bus, hop on the Hop On Hop Off bus, rent a Hopp electric scooter, walk, run or call a taxi. Walking takes about 45 minutes (mostly uphill), the electric scooter takes about 20 minutes, and a taxi takes you here in under 10 minutes.
The nearest bus stations for routes A5 or A6: Réttarhvammur, Pálmholt, Furulundur
Do you offer pick up and drop off service?
We do not offer pick-up or drop-off service. Our location is quite central, and many different options are available to reach us. Please see above to find what suits you best. We recommend designing your round-trip according to your schedule and what you'd like to see on your day in Akureyri. You could enjoy a beautiful electric scooter ride up along the river to join us and then a leisurely walk through local neighbourhoods to get back. If you have time, we recommend stopping by the Botanical garden, the Adventure garden, the big church on the hill and/or Nonnahús in the cute old part of town.
Will I get back to my ship in time?
We make every effort to start the tour on time and each tour takes from 1-2 hours, depending on group size. We recommend you estimate 2 hours for the tour itself, then add your travelling time (10 minutes by taxi is the quickest) before you book your zipline tour. Let us know as we start our walk back to base from the last zipline if you'd like us to call you a taxi to be waiting at base.
I am a senior, am I too old?
In a word, no :-)
But it all depends on the person, really. The ziplines themselves are probably the least of your worries. If you are fit enough to handle uneven nature paths for up to 15 minutes at a time and some uphill walks you should be fine.
We have about 3 minutes of hiking between each of the 5 ziplines on sometimes muddy or rough paths, partly uphill but mostly level. The walk back to base after the last line is 10-15 minutes with a gentle upward slant and one short steep hill (ca 1 min). If you are feeling up to that you certainly qualify and we’ve had a few 80ish people join us without problems.
How do I book?
How should I dress for the tour?
There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing! Dress according to the day and you’ll be just dandy zipping in any kind of weather.
We advice sturdy trail shoes with a good grip and tight hold on your foot. Because we walk on nature paths in all sorts of conditions.
Do you cancel due to bad weather?
Almost never! Our zipline trail is mostly sheltered by the canyon and forest and the weather has to be quite crazy for us to cancel. If you don't receive an email from us regarding a cancel please assume the tour is on :-)
